Dale Dickerson, 18, of St. Louis, escaped the Stoddard County jail last night (Sept. 15) sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. after forcing 'cheap locks' on some doors and screens in the juvenile cell. He had been lodged in the county jail since pleading guilty to a burglary charge at Advance; Stoddard County deputies were to transport him to the state penitentiary in Jefferson City on the morning of Sept. 16. He had been assigned to the Jobs Corps Center at Puxico. Sheriff Ralph Mouser said Dickerson is white, about 6 feet tall, weighing 185-190 pounds. Sheriff reported that earlier in the summer Dickerson's mother called his office saying her son had told her he planned to steal a car and come to St. Louis; Dickerson had apparently tried suicide twice while in the Stoddard County jail.
