Dexter fire chief. The department was called out four times on Saturday, Nov. 26, 1977, twice in early-morning 13-degree weather: 4:56 a.m. at the Fitzpatrick home, 26 Winston St. (flames shooting about two feet from a gas stove but firemen determined the flames resulted from a gas line leak; the gas supply was simply turned off; no damage); 6:43 a.m. at Bob's Accounting and Tax Service, 210 S. Locust St. (fire had started in the south end of a remodeled mobile home; office equipment and furniture destroyed; smoke damage in the adjoining living quarters; firemen were called back at 10:55 a.m. and quickly extinguished a flare-up; cause of the blaze not determined); Saturday night at the Hugh Burleson home, Rt. 3, Dexter (stubborn blaze around a fireplace caused by a faulty fireplace installation; timbers behind the fireplace had heated up and were smouldering; firemen took the fireplace apart brick-by-brick; 'extensive, expensive damage' to the house).
